News: FICPA issues letters to FinCEN, DOR seeking filing relief for those impacted by Hurricane Helene

The FICPA on Monday sent letters to both the U.S. Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and the Florida Department of Revenue (DOR), requesting filing relief for those Florida counties in which a major disaster has been declared.

President Joe Biden on Sept. 28 issued a major disaster declaration for Charlotte, Citrus, Dixie, Franklin, Hernando, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lee, Levy, Madison, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, Taylor, and Wakulla counties, which will trigger an automatic filing extension from the Internal Revenue Service, with a new filing date to be announced.

The FICPA's letter to FinCEN requests that the federal agency grant extensions for affected Floridian who have Report of Foreign Bank or Financial Accounts (FBAR) and/or beneficial ownership information (BOI) filing requirements.

The FICPA's letter to DOR similarly requests that the Department grant affected filers filing relief from various state deadlines, as it has done in the past.

Please note that Alachua, Baker, Bay, Bradford, Brevard, Calhoun, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Glades, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Monroe, Nassau, Okaloosa, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Volusia, Walton, Wakulla and Washington counties have already been granted IRS extensions through Feb. 3, 2025, and DOR extensions through Feb. 18, 2025, following the impact of Hurricane Debby.
