The Florida Department of Revenue on Wednesday granted relief to counties impacted by recent storms, including Hurricanes Helene and Debby and the severe weather that hit the Big Bend region in May.
Advocacy Alert: IRS issues May 1 extension for 41 counties impacted by Hurricane Helene

The IRS has issued a tax-filing extension to May 1, 2025, for 41 Florida counties impacted by Hurricane Helene. Those taxpayers with returns and payments with due dates postponed until Feb. 3, 2025, due to Tropical Storm Debby in Florida, will also now have until May 1, 2025, to file and/or pay.

The FICPA on Monday sent letters to both the U.S. Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and the Florida Department of Revenue, requesting filing relief for those Florida counties in which a major disaster has been declared.

Business owners can self-report physical and economic damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Survey responses will allow the state to expedite Hurricane Helene recovery efforts by gathering data and assessing the needs of impacted businesses.

President Joe Biden on Tuesday declared that an emergency exists in the state of Florida and ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal, and local response efforts due to the emergency conditions resulting from Tropical Storm Helene beginning on Sept. 23, 2024, and continuing.
